Lines in the water [FU13]

Fortnightly update 13: 25.05.2020 to 07.06.2020

In this blog series, I share my fortnight-to-fortnight triumphs (and failures) as a writer. Despite all the ups and downs, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Mallee

Now, I felt a little inspired this fortnight, especially after talking to my good friend Jon Pettas, and I wrote my first ever screenplay, just for fun. Mallee is a story about a father and son who’ve lost touch, so they go camping in rural Western Australia, and you can read it for free via that link. I’m pretty proud of it!

Children’s book

I also think it’s time I tell you that my partner and I wrote a children’s picture book and that we’re currently submitting it to publishers! I know, it’s super exciting, but unfortunately, I can’t reveal much more than that just yet. If a publisher takes our wonderful story and runs with it, you will DEFINITELY hear about it. Fingers crossed! On this note, I’d like to thank everyone who read and provided feedback on our story before we finalised it for submission. You know who you are ❤

The Oracle of Aegis Isle

My custom Dungeons & Dragons adventure The Oracle of Aegis Isle is about two weeks off being ready now, and I don’t think I’m going to need much more playtesting, as there is such thing as too much. The playtest I ran with some pals from the D&D Perth Facebook page wrapped up the other day, and it went well! Overall, I’ve put hundreds of hours into this thing, and I’m about ready to abandon it because…

Art is never finished, only abandoned.

— Leonardo da Vinci

Honestly, this has become my biggest project to date, and I can’t wait to share it with the nerd world.

The Front

I write scripts for the popular World War II YouTube channel The Front. We uploaded two videos this fortnight, as usual, and the first was one Puerto Rico in the Second World War.

The second was about China in World War II. Copped a little heat for this one!

Geetsly’s

I write scripts for the popular Star Wars YouTube channel Geetsly’s. Two videos which I wrote the scripts for went up this fortnight. The first was about the most terrifying species in the Star Wars universe.

The second was about the droid who almost toppled Sidious’s empire.

#vss365

I write 250-character “stories” using the #vss365 word prompts on Twitter under my own name. I wrote two haikus this fortnight because I’m edgy like that. Ha, you can always tell which words are the prompts. Who the hell uses “gleaming” or “littoral” in a sentence? My third pieces was… I dunno.

#littoral

Pink and greasy brow
Cheap drinks,
littoral village
Anxious yet for home

#gloaming

Salt wind and milk waves
Drive ends on ocean
gloaming
Arms wrapped from behind

#slough

I felt my skin peel back, eyes shrink dry, and flesh slough dead into my coffin, conscious somehow through it all. And oh how I miss every second of that untellable torment, for now spreading through the dark is only my soul, and I feel nothing at all.

Conclusion

The title “Lines in the water” makes sense now, eh? I think it’s healthy to have plenty of projects on the go, but I’m also keen to tie off a few and glue them into my portfolio. This fortnight has been all over the place, but I’ve been working DAMN hard, and I think I’m about ready to piss off down south for a few days. Just gotta push through this final sprint.

Thanks for reading ❤
